RAWALPINDI: Security forces killed 17 terrorists in two intelligence-based operations (IBOs) in Balochistan’s Kachhi and Kharan districts, while a soldier was martyred during an exchange of fire, the military’s media wing said on Tuesday.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the operations were conducted on November 1 following reports about the presence of terrorists belonging to what it described as the Indian proxies “Fitna Al Hindustan” and “Fitna Al Khawarij”.
In Kachhi district, security forces carried out an IBO in the Sanni area, where they thwarted an attempt by terrorists to establish a roadblock in the city through “proactive action”, the statement said.
Ten terrorists were killed during the operation, while weapons and ammunition were also recovered, according to the ISPR.
In a separate operation in Kharan district, security forces busted a terrorist hideout, leading to an intense exchange of fire in which seven terrorists were killed.
Weapons and ammunition were also recovered during the Kharan operation.
However, Sepoy Hikmat Ullah was martyred during the exchange of fire, the military’s media wing said. The 25-year-old soldier belonged to Karak district.
The ISPR said sanitisation operations were underway to eliminate any other terrorists found in the area.
It added that security forces and law enforcement agencies would continue their counterterrorism campaign under the “Azm-e-Istehkam” initiative approved by the Federal Apex Committee on the National Action Plan to eliminate foreign-sponsored and supported terrorism from the country. –Agencies
