ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan on Friday expressed concern over reports about incarcerated party founder Imran Khan’s health, saying the information emerging about the former prime minister’s condition was not encouraging.
Speaking to reporters outside Parliament House in Islamabad, Gohar said the entire nation was concerned about Imran’s health and stressed that there should be no compromise on his medical treatment.
“The reports concerning the PTI founder’s health are not encouraging, and the entire nation is worried,” he said.
The PTI chairman said lawyer Salman Safdar had managed to meet Imran and received certain instructions concerning his health and pending legal cases.
Gohar said the party had approached the Supreme Court seeking implementation of its August 18 order concerning the former prime minister’s medical treatment.
The court had directed that Imran be shifted for treatment and that a medical board be constituted to assess his condition, the PTI chairman said. He said an application had been submitted requesting the apex court to fix the matter for an early hearing.
“Decisions should be taken regarding the PTI founder’s transfer to hospital and medical treatment,” Gohar said.
The PTI chairman also called for an end to political tensions in the country, saying the situation should not be allowed to deteriorate further.
He demanded an end to the detention of lawmakers, party workers and supporters.
Gohar further expressed concern over the detention of Imran’s sisters, saying the party had yet to receive information about their condition, and demanded their immediate release.
Conflicting accounts of Imran Khan’s health
Gohar’s remarks come amid uncertainty surrounding Imran’s health following alarming statements circulated on social media by his sister Rubina Khan and son Kasim Khan.
According to The News, Rubina, in a statement shared by Kasim, said the former prime minister had conveyed that his blood pressure had suddenly risen to 192, raising concerns about his safety in prison.
She demanded that Imran be immediately admitted to an independent medical facility in the presence of his personal doctor.
Kasim also expressed concern over his father’s prolonged isolation, warning of serious consequences for his health.
However, the source of the information shared by Imran’s family remains unclear.
Safdar, who met Imran and his wife Bushra Bibi at Adiala Jail on November 2, subsequently distanced himself from the reports, saying he was not the source of the information circulating about the former premier’s health.
The lawyer said his responsibilities were strictly legal and that he was not acting as anyone’s messenger.
Following the meeting, Safdar said he had been allowed to meet Imran after seven months and Bushra Bibi after 11 months.
He said the meeting lasted approximately 40 minutes, during which both briefed him about their health, living conditions and pending legal matters.
Meanwhile, sources familiar with the meeting told The News that Imran had mentioned his blood pressure rising to around 190 on one occasion but was otherwise generally fit, with no indication of an immediate serious medical emergency.
The sources also said the former prime minister was particularly concerned about his wife’s health, including a reported eye-related problem.
The differing accounts have left questions about Imran’s current health condition unresolved, with no independently verified medical assessment provided in the available information. –Agencies
