NAB team visits residence of Shehbaz Sharif's daughter, serves notice

LAHORE: A team of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) visited the residence of Opposition Leader in National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif’s daughter in Model Town area of the city and served a notice summoning them in an assets-beyond-means case.

Responding to reports of a raid at the residence of Shehbaz’s daughter, the NAB Lahore said a team of its officials went there to serve the notice summoning them on April 16.

It said the only police vehicle there was for the security of NAB team and the residence of the opposition leader’s daughter was not raided.

The NAB Lahore said there was no truth in reports of a laying siege to the residence.

“Some individuals have been doing baseless propaganda to malign the NAB,” it said in the statement, adding that investigations were ongoing pertaining to assets-beyond means and money laundering cases against the Sharif family.

The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz spokesperson Maryam Aurangzeb in her reaction to the development questioned the constitutional validity of the action.

“What kind of accountability is this? How can one raid at someone’s residential place without giving notice,” she asked.

Earlier, the NAB summoned Shehbaz’s wife and two daughters. Shehbaz’s  wife has been summoned on April 17 while his daughter Rabia Sharif has been summoned on April 18 and Javeria Sharif has been summoned on April 19, sources in the accountability watchdog said.

The wife and daughters of Shehbaz have been summoned for questioning regarding business transactions, the NAB sources further said.

The PML-N president’s son, Hamza Shehbaz, has also been summoned on April 15 in a case pertaining to construction of a nullah from government money. Hamza has been summoned on April 16 as well in a case pertaining to assets beyond known sources of income, sources added.

The Lahore High Court on Monday restrained NAB from arresting Hamza. NAB had carried out two successive raids last week at Shehbaz’s Model Town residence to arrest Hamza.
