BEIJING: High-ranking officials of the Communist Party of China (CPC) including President Xi Jinping on Wednesday afternoon attended the third session of the 12th Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), joined in panel discussions and delivered speeches.
During the panel discussion with CPPCC members, Xi stressed that establishing peaceful cross-Straits relations is to promote mutual development and brings benefits to people on both sides, hailing it a bright path to realize the peaceful reunification. “We should unswervingly stick to the road, adhere to the common political ground, strive for the well-being of the compatriots and join hands in pursuing national rejuvenation. ”
Premier Li Keqiang said that China should strive to keep stable growth, continue to push reforms, arouse initiatives of private capital and enterprises, promote innovations, and encourage Chinese products to “go out.”
Zhang Dejiang, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, said that China should steadfastly carry out the principles of “one country, two systems,” understand this policy comprehensively and accurately, and maintain the authority of the Constitution and the Basic Law concerning the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
China’s top political adviser Yu Zhengsheng pointed out that we should advocate religious reconciliation, firmly resist religious extremism and maintain the harmony and stability of religions.
Liu Yunshan, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, said that China should strengthen the discipline of Party members, and be stricter on the Party members’ ideological education, daily management and political life.
Wang Qishan, head of the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, said that China should consistently carry out disciplinary work, deepen the anti-graft campaign, deal with the remaining cases of corruption and prevent new ones from happening.
Vice Premier Zhang Gaoli said that China should deepen reforms on scientific and technological systems, strongly promote independent innovation and continue accelerating the close blending of the country’s science and technology, economic and social development.
