ISLAMABAD: Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan on Thursday said that media is the fourth pillar of state.
While addressing the National Media Conference in Islamabad, she said that media plays a key role in national development.
“Media as watchdog has a responsibility to safeguard national interests. Besides that, it should also point out weaknesses of government for the purpose of improving it,” she said.
The special assistant said government believes in freedom of expression and is committed to strengthen the media in the country.
Speaking on Kashmir’s issue, Dr. Firdous said that Prime Minister Imran Khan gave a historic speech at United Nations General assembly session. “PM has shaken the world conscience by delivering a historic speech on Kashmir at UNGA.”
She further said that that Pakistan will continue to stand by its Kashmiri brothers and sisters and government of Pakistan is continuously engaging international community over human rights violations in occupied Kashmir.
She added that PM Imran presented the true face of Islam before the world during his UNGA speech.
She also stated that government plans to establish a media university in order to enhance the capacity of the youth and provide them with education as per modern standards.
