Southampton: Medium pacer Mohammad Abbas is looking forward to give a match-winning performance for the national side in the third and final Test of the series at the Rose Bowl.
The final Test is slated to start from tomorrow. The 30-year-old while talking to pcb.com.pk said he regrets that Pakistan lost the first Test after having a dominant position for three and a half days.
“There is certainly a regret. We played good cricket for three-and-a-half days and England won it by playing only two hours of good cricket. We have a great record in England I am excited about the third Test and looking forward to give a performance which will help my team level the series,” Abbas said.
Abbas has the best average (15.93) and economy rate (2.34) for a bowler with more than 50 overs in England since 2018 in Tests.
“I stick to my strengths and assess the conditions by reading the pitch and the batsman. Though I have had a good run in the UAE, I am enjoying the experience of bowling in England. The weather conditions here are conducive for seam bowling,” he added.
Speaking about his new-ball partnership with Shaheen Shah Afridi, Abbas said. “I am enjoying bowling with Shaheen. He is young and is eager to learn. We discuss the conditions, plans and decide who will bowl from which end in pre-match practice sessions. We understand that we need to take wickets with the new ball to ensure the opposition does not end up piling runs,” he maintained.
It must be noted that Pakistan have not lost a series against England in the last 10 years and have also drawn the previous two series in England. Abbas is looking forward to playing a role in ensuring the impeccable record stays intact. – Agencies
