NATIONAL Assembly Standing Committee on State and Frontier Regions (SAFRON) met under the Chairmanship of Sajid Khan MNA. The meeting was attended by member MNAs of the committee. The Committee recommended that bonafide tribesmen should be appointed in projects launched by Social Welfare Department in the merged districts.
National Assembly Standing Committee on SAFRON also discussed the issue of laying 3G and 4G network in the tribal districts of erstwhile FATA.
It is matter of common knowledge that candidates of settled districts of Khyber Pukhtunkhwa were usually appointed in projects of former FATA. It may be recalled that 26 posts of Agriculture Officers were advertised for the vacant slots in agriculture projects of tribal areas before FATA merger late 2017.
Majority of candidates from the settled districts were recommended for appointment, early 2018. However, their appointment orders could not be issued due to FATA merger. The same posts may be still vacant, for which agriculture graduates hailing from tribal districts can be considered for appointment.
Setting up 3G and 4 G network by telecom companies in the merged districts is the need of the hour as internet is an effective medium for the promotion of higher education. But it is also an unpleasant fact that 3G and 4G coverage is not satisfactory in the settled districts due to the lopsided policies of telecom companies for earning more profit with less users’ satisfaction.
Uneven location of 3G and 4G towers and bad engineering are the major factors of poor performance of U fone as compared with Zong. Hopefully, National Assembly Standing Committee on SAFRON will take up this issue of humongous radius of 3G and 4G telecom service with Secretary Ministry of Information Technology, when he comes to the next meeting of the committee.
