'AJK, GB uplift top priority'

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday said that socioeconomic development of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and Gilgit-Baltistan was among the foremost priorities of the government.
He was talking to Minister for Kashmir Affairs Ali Amin Khan Gandapur who called on him here at the Prime Minister Office.
The Prime Minister was briefed about the progress on developmental projects in AJK and Gilgit-Baltistan.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday said that rehabilitation of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) and transforming it into a profitable institution was among top priorities of the government.
Presiding over a meeting on matters relating to Aviation Division, PM Imran expressed satisfaction on the process of continued reforms in PIA, Radio Pakistan reported. The meeting discussed at length the matters of aviation division especially the fruits of recent reforms and better management of national airports.
PIA Chairman Air Marshal Arshad Mahmood apprised the meeting that 47 more flights have been introduced and two new aircraft have been added into the fleet of PIA.
He said the incumbent administration of PIA is working day and night to further improve the performance of national carrier.
The meeting also took into account the progress in the implementation of decisions regarding better management practices at nation’s airport and to facilitate the passengers.
Earlier on November 24, the government’s efforts to turn the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) into a profitable organisation seem to be bearing fruit as the national flag carrier’s losses had seen a significant drop in first six months of 2019.
According to figures acquired by ARY News, the airline’s revenue had risen by 44.1 per cent from Jan to Jun of the current year.
Earlier, Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan has called on a meeting of the government and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) spokespersons in Islamabad today (Friday.
The meeting will take place at the PM House around 5 pm today.
According to sources, the government legal team will brief the spokespersons on Supreme Court’s verdict in Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa’s extension in a tenure case.
Sources further said that Prime Minister Imran Khan will also give a guideline in this regard to the spokespersons.
Supreme Court (SC) on Thursday had granted a six-month extension to Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa in his service tenure.
Later, PM Imran Khan took to Twitter to air out his feelings over the newsworthy event that culminated in a 6-month extension of the current Chief of the Armed Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa.
PM Imran Khan in a series of tweets took shots at those vying for an institutional clash at the top level, Khan had expressed his feeling saying how disappointed must the individuals be who wanted Pakistan to come to standstill and embroiled in infighting.
