PARIS: Ambassador to France, Mumtaz Zahra Baloch on Thursday rekindled the flame at the tomb of the unknown soldier under the Arc de Triomphe as the guest of honour at the annual Ravivage de la Flamme (rekindling of the flame) ceremony here.
On her arrival at the Arc de Triomphe, the Ambassador was warmly received by the representatives of the Royal British Legion – Paris branch. She placed a wreath at the tomb of the unknown soldier and paid homage to the British and Commonwealth servicemen and women who died during the two World Wars.
The ceremony featured French military honours including guard contingent and ceremonial military band that played the national anthems of Pakistan and France. It was attended by French military and civilian officials, representatives of the royal British legion, and diplomats, servicemen, and veterans of Great Britain and the Commonwealth.
Expressing her thoughts in the visitors book the Ambassador paid tribute to all those who laid down their lives for peace and a better future for the mankind.
Since 1924, on 4th of August every year, the Royal British Legion – Paris Branch holds the traditional ceremony for the rekindling of the flame at the Arc de Triomphe and commemorates the British and Commonwealth servicemen and women who died during the World Wars. –Agencies
