MOSCOW: Ambassador, Faisal Niaz Tirmizi on Thursday received world-renowned Russian mountaineer, Denis Urubko here at Pakistan House.
During the call on, Denis Urubko informed the Ambassador about his recent sporting achievement: the successful ascent of Nanga Parbat (8,125 meters) on July 10, 2025, which he accomplished along with Spanish alpinist Maria Jose Cardell Fernandez. Urubko fondly recalled their “magic days” spent on the Diamir slope of Nanga Parbat after acclimatizing near Skardu town.
Urubko further shared that during their pre-expedition preparations in Gilgit-Baltistan, the sportsmen organized alpinist training for Pakistani youth. These skills will enable the Pakistani young men to find employment in the sphere of industrial mountaineering.
Ambassador Tirmizi, in his turn, shared stories of his father, an army pilot who served in the Karakoram Range.
Denis Urubko extended an invitation for the Ambassador to accompany him in his visit to the slopes of Russia’s highest point, Mount Elbrus (5,642 meters), which the Ambassador gratefully accepted.
The Ambassador concluded the meeting by extending a warm invitation to Mr. Urubko for future visits to the Embassy in Moscow, underscoring the strong cultural and adventurous ties between the two nations. –Agencies
