LAHORE: The joint opposition’s All Parties Conference (APC) would be held immediately after Eidul Azha to devise a joint strategy against the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government, according to media reports.
According to details, the meeting would be presided by Opposition Leader in the National Assembly and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif in Islamabad and he would also announce the date of the meeting.
All opposition parties, including Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), and Balochistan National Party (BNP), would participate in the conference.
According to reports, the federal government’s two-year performance, including the National Accountability Bureau’s (NAB’s) action against the opposition and country’s economic situation would be discussed in the conference. On July 20, it was reported that PML-N’s delegation would include Ahsan Iqbal, Khawaja Saad Rafique and Ayaz Sadiq.
In their earlier meeting, PPP and PML-N also agreed to form a joint action committee to formulate a common strategy against the government. The joint action committee will comprise PML-N’s Khawaja Asif, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Rana Sanaullah and Marriyum Aurangzeb, and the PPP’s Naveed Qamar, Sherry Rehman, Farhatullah Babar and Nayyar Bukhari. The committee will also include ANP’s Mian Iftikhar and Haider Khan Hoti, while Mir Kabeer Shahi will represent the National Party of Balochistan. The committee would focus on the way to “rid the nation of this government”.
Meanwhile, Lahore has once again become a center-stage of opposition-led politics after Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman met Opposition Leader and PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif on Monday while PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari is also expected to visit the city tonight.
Speaking after the meeting, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) president said that the government had failed on all fronts whether it is decisions in the name of public interest or rising inflation. Sugar and flour prices have gone up while fuel prices witnessed a historic hike during their tenure, he said and added that rupee continues to slide down against dollar in the incumbent tenure while growth targets have also been missed by a mile. Shehbaz Sharif claimed that the masses have not witnessed such miserable governance in the country’s history.
“I have met with Maulana Fazlur Rehman for a devising a way forward for the joint opposition,” he said and announced that they had summoned a meeting of the Rehbar committee to decide the future course of action.
