KHYBER: A Pakistan Army officer was martyred in a heavy gunfire between a group of terrorists and security forces in Khyber district, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Thursday.
According to a statement issued by the military’s media affairs wing, security forces conducted an intelligence-based operation (IBO) on reported presence of some terrorists in Shakhas area of Khyber on the night between July 5-6.
A gunbattle ensued between some militants who first opened fire on the raiding team. As the establishment of blocking positions to cut the escape routes of terrorists was under way, a group of terrorists was spotted by Maj Abdullah Shah who was leading the operation from the front.
The officer embraced martrydom. The 33-year-old officer belonged to Kohat. Security forces managed to arrest three terrorists and their facilitators.
Sanitisation of the area is being carried out to eliminate the terrorists present in the area, the ISPR said.
Security forces of Pakistan are determined to eliminate the menace of terrorism and such sacrifices of our soldiers further strengthen our resolve, the ISPR statement further said.
On Wednesday, three soldiers embraced martyrdom when a suicide bomber exploded himself in North Waziristan.
According to the military’s media wing, the aim of the suicide bomber was to target the checkpoint of the security forces however, the soldiers responded valiantly and the suicide attacker failed to achieve the desired objective.
According to the ISPR, the suicide bomber was riding in a vehicle and he blew himself up when he was stopped at the checkpost.
Naib Subedar Sahib Khan from Mianwali, Naik Mohammad Ibrahim from Dera Ismail Khan and Sepoy Jahangir Khan from Mardan were martyred in the suicide attack. –Agencies
