Lahore: Pakistan Army and WAPDA have qualified for the 2020 National Challenge Cup semi-finals. Army beat Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) on penalties (3-0) after a thrilling 2-2 draw while Wapda defeated SA Gardens 3-0.
Army were a goal ahead in the 20th minute, thanks to Ali Raza but KRL’s Muddassar scored the equalizer in the 55th minute. Ansar Abbas in the 72th minute, gave Army 2-1 lead before Muddassar again netted a goal for KRL in the 83rd minute. Both teams were unable to score a goal in the Extra Time and the match had to be decided through a penalty shootout. KRL missed their first three penalties while Army scored all to bool their spot in the semi-finals.
In the second quarter-final, Ashfaquddin (5′, 56′) scored a brace and Ahtisham (90+5′) scored the third goal for Wapda to confirm a comfortable 3-0 win over SA Gardens. The two remaining semi-finalists will be decided when the Higher Education Commission (HEC) plays Karachi Port Trust (KPT) and Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) take on Pakistan Airforce (PAF) tomorrow.
