Army’s mega manoeuvres in flood-hit areas to counter catastrophe

-Army Chief spends Defense Day with flood affectees
-Says ‘we owe our freedom, peace to sacrifices of martyrs’
-Corps Commander Karachi offers fateha at Mizar-e -Quaid
-Commander Southern Command and Multan Corps inspects relief work at flood-hit areas of Rajanpur

RAWALPINDI: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa has spent Defence and Martyrs Day with flood affectees in different areas of Balochistan, Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement.
According to the military’s media affairs wing Gen. Bajwa spent complete Defence & Martyrs Day visiting far flung flood affected areas of Balochistan Tuesday.
On arrival, COAS visited army flood relief camp at Usta Muhammad, Jafferabad district where he was briefed about ongoing rescue and relief operations, the statement said, adding that COAS met with the troops and appreciated their efforts for the flood affecties.
COAS visited flood relief and medical camps and spent time with the locals to have on ground information about plans to mitigate their problems .
COAS met Local elders in Sui area of Balochistan and inquired about their well being and issues. Local elders thanked COAS for reaching out to them in the most difficult time in their life.

Later , COAS visited Military College Sui where he was briefed about different training and educational facilities. He interacted with the faculty and students and appreciated the educational and training standard of institution.
Faculty and Students thanked Pak Army for providing opportunity for them to compete at National level.
It is pertinent to mention that Military College Sui was established in 2011 and its cadets have shown extraordinary results.
General Bajwa said that nation owes freedom and peace to unprecedented sacrifices of martyrs to keep the country’s flag high. On the occasion of Defense Day, Army Chief said that September 6 symbolizes unwavering resolve of Pakistan Armed Forces backed by great nation to defend motherland against all odds. Nation salutes our heroes, he added. It merits mention that the nation is celebrating its 58th Defense and Martyrs Day Tuesday, to remember the courageous war which incurred a shameful defeat to a six times bigger enemy India.

The Defense and Martyrs Day is celebrated every year on September 6th to revitalize the national spirit, remember and eulogize the sacrifices of the martyrs, who spilled their blood for the security of the sacred motherland and marked an exemplary history of patriotism.
Special prayers were offered after Fajr prayers in mosques for progress and prosperity of the country. Fateha and Quran Khawani were also held for the martyrs.
In another statement ISPR said Corps Commander Karachi, Lieutenant General Muhammad Saeed visited Mizar-e -Quaid yesterday to pay homage.
Corps Commander Karachi offered Fatiha and laid floral wreath. Corps Commander also visited the grave of Capt Taha Murtaza Hashmi (Shaheed). Corps Commander offered Fatiha and laid wreath.
Later, Corps Commander visited residence of Nike Amjad Ali Shah Bukhari Shaheed . Corps Commander offered Fatiha and met with family of Shaheed
“A wreath laying ceremony was held at Yadgar e Shuhada in Peshawar. Commander Peshawar Corps Lieutenant General Hassan Azhar Hayat laid the wreath”, ISPR said.
Separately, Commander Southern Command and Multan Corps, Lieutenant General Muhammad Chiragh Haider visited flood affected areas of District Rajanpur, ISPR said.
He witnessed the ongoing relief effort including distribution of ration and provision of medical care by Pakistan Army.
He praised the efforts of Officers and Jawans, helping the people in flood affected areas round the clock.
Later, Lieutenant General Muhammad Chiragh Haider also visited families of Shuhada in the area and paid tribute to the martyrs who laid down their lives while defending the motherland. – ISPR
