DUBAI: Pakistan made history on Sunday night, defeating India for the first time in a World Cup fixture and ending a painful jinx that first began in 1992.
Following the historic win, President Dr Arif Alvi congratulated Pakistan cricket team over their 10 wicket victory against India in the T20 World Cup match.
In a tweet on social media platform Twitter, he said, “Congratulations Green Shirts. Total Wipeout. A win by 10 wickets. You make us proud. A good match. Tremendous batting by Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam. What a pleasure to see total dominance. Going towards a good ending.
Prime Minister Imran Khan also congratulated Pakistan cricket team for clinching ten wicket victory against India.
In a tweet on social media platform Twitter, he said, “Congratulations to the Pakistan Team & especially to Babar Azam who led from the front, as well as to the brilliant performances of Rizwan & Shaheen Afridi. The nation is proud of you all.”
Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa has congratulated Pakistan Cricket Team for outstanding performance and comprehensive win against India in ICC T20 World Cup Match. “Pakistan Cricket Team has made us all proud”, the statement said.
The Green Shirts were famous for their meltdowns against their arch-rivals in World Cup matches and had lost 12 straight matches to the Men in Blue. They were again heavy underdogs heading into the game, with few giving them a chance. But they flipped the script and inflicted a chastening 10-wicket defeat on India. It was the first time either side had beaten the other by 10 wickets in a limited-overs fixture.
