Lahore: Pakistan’s white-ball captain Babar Azam has now appeared as the favorite to lead Pakistan in the Test format too.
Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) Cricket Committee has proposed the 25-year-old Babar to replace current Test skipper Azhar Ali before the New Zealand tour.
According to sources, the cricket committee does not want Azhar to retain as Test captain while wicketkeeper-batsman Muhammad Rizwan is likely to be appointed as the vice-captain of the Test team.
Chairman PCB Ehsan Mani will take a final decision regarding Test captaincy after reviewing all the possibilities.
It must be noted that a few days ago, it was reported that Rizwan, who has proved his mettle in wicketkeeping and batting, is likely to be given the heavy responsibility of captaincy.
The squad and captain for the tour of New Zealand will be announced on November 11 where they will play two Tests and three T20Is.
