BEIJING: China will take all necessary measures to crush any “Taiwan independence” attempts, and remains resolute in defending national sovereignty and territorial integrity, China’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying said on Monday.
Hua made the remarks in response to the statement made by U.S. State Department spokesperson Ned Price, who called China’s military activities near the Taiwan island “provocative” and “destabilizing.”
Hua condemned the statement for violating the one-China principle and the three China-U.S. joint communiques, saying it sends “extremely wrong and irresponsible” signals to the outside world.
Hua pointed to recent negative moves made by the U.S., including selling arms to Taiwan and enhancing its military connection with the island.
These provocative actions have not only harmed China-U.S. relations, but also damaged the peace and stability of the region. China resolutely opposes such moves and will take necessary actions in response, said Hua.
Noting that the one-China principle serves as the political foundation for the bilateral relations, Hua urged the U.S. side to abide by the principle and the three China-U.S. joint communiques, rather than taking unilateral actions.
The Chinese spokesperson reiterated that any attempt to seek “Taiwan independence” will be a dead end, and reaffirmed that China will take all necessary actions to smash any “Taiwan independence” plots.
China has unswerving determination to defend its national sovereignty, and territorial integrity, Hua stressed.
She called on the U.S. side to correct its wrongdoing and properly handle issues related to China’s Taiwan by ending support for “Taiwan independence” forces and taking pragmatic actions to safeguard the regional peace and stability, rather than the other way around.
