Karachi: New Zealand batsman Tom Blundell, while playing for Wellington, registered his name to the list of unusual dismissals when he was given out obstructing the field.
The incident happened on the final day of the Plunkett Shield match against Otago at the Basin Reserve.
Blundell, who made 101, edged a ball from Otago swing bowler Jacob Duffy back toward his stumps and first used his foot to try to stop the ball.
He then stopped and used his hand to flick the ball away which is not allowed and resulted in his unusual dismissal.
He is only the second player in New Zealand’s first-class cricket to be given out for obstructing the field. John Hayes more than 60 years ago was dismissed in that manner. Meanwhile, The England batsman Len Hutton is the only player in Test history to be given out obstructing the field, dismissed in a Test against South Africa in 1951. – Agencies
