Bloemfontein: South African head coach Mark Boucher has hinted that former Proteas captain could make his international comeback in June against Sri Lanka for three ODIs and as many T20Is.
Not just de Villiers, Boucher has also given a deadline to leg-spinner Imran Tahir and Chris Morris of June 1 to make themselves available for the national side again if they want to be considered for the T20 World Cup in October in Australia.
“From June 1, which is the Sri Lanka tour, those guys need to make themselves available. Whether we select them is another story,” Former wicket-keeper batsman said according to cricket Australia.
“But they need to make themselves available if they want to considered for a World Cup spot,” he added.
The 36-year-old AB is playing leagues all over the world and playing in the last year’s Big Bash League, De Villiers admitted that he would love to come out of retirement and play in October’s T20 World Cup.
Last month, Boucher also said that he wants the best players to be part of the world cup. “If he (AB) is in good form and he is ready to go, and he makes himself available for the time we have asked him to be available as he is the best man for the job. Egos should not come forward as we will go to win the competition,” he said.
It must be noted that Tahir and Morris have not played for Proteas since the world cup 2019 as they are playing in T20 leagues around the world.
