BRISD, Yingke launch legal workshops in Pakistan

BEIJING: The Belt and Road Initiative for Sustainable Development (BRISD), in collaboration with Yingke Law Firm—China’s largest law firm by number of lawyers—has launched a series of legal workshops in Pakistan aimed at strengthening legal capacity under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).
The initiative was formalized during a meeting held on April 21, 2025, at Yingke’s global headquarters in Beijing, where both sides discussed practical steps to implement their joint legal development goals across Pakistan and other Global South countries.
The strategic session focused on International Workshops on Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) and Online Dispute Resolution (ODR). These workshops aim to empower the legal fraternity, including young lawyers, law students, judges, corporate leaders, and representatives from the private sector, by equipping them with cutting-edge tools and frameworks for resolving disputes efficiently and digitally — in alignment with global legal modernization trends.
This initiative builds on a strategic Memorandum of Understanding signed in January 2025 between the two designed to enhance legal support for investors, entrepreneurs, and governments. The agreement includes services in corporate law, international arbitration, taxation, intellectual property, and regulatory compliance—critical areas for facilitating growth and investment.
Talking to media, Qaiser Nawab, Chairman of BRISD, emphasized that legal harmonization is critical for unleashing the full potential of the bilateral cooperation. “As Pakistan is expanding their trade, technology, and infrastructure cooperation, strong legal frameworks are essential to safeguard investments and resolve cross-border challenges,” he stated.
Li Fei, Deputy Director for Regional Development at Yingke Overseas Institutions, reaffirmed the firm’s commitment to supporting cross-border projects through its Global One-Hour Legal Services Ecosystem. “Together, we will enable seamless support for infrastructure, digital economy, energy, and youth-led innovation projects across Pakistan,” he said. –Agencies
