Britney Spears shared a lengthy, emotional post on X on Friday, revealing she believes she “failed as a mother” after one of her sons told her he doesn’t believe in God.
Despite that admission, she made clear her own faith remains unshaken, writing that she believes in “a Holy Spirit that sits high in the kingdom of heaven” and that she’s personally felt its presence.
She opened the post with an old photo of sons Sean Preston, 20, and Jayden James, 19, running on the beach.
Much of the post centered on a resurfaced hurt from her past.
Spears wrote that she learned five years ago that her sons had secretly been taken to the beach by her estranged parents, Jamie and Lynne Spears, during a summer when she says her father restricted her own movements and reacted poorly to the media attention she was receiving.
She described feeling “demoralized” learning her parents had spent that time with her children without her knowledge, saying she spent two months in tears over it.
The post expanded into broader reflections on her life and the conservatorship that controlled her for 13 years, with Spears writing that she never got to fully be herself despite considering herself deeply intelligent, saying she felt taken advantage of within a system she described as having “brainwashed” her.
She described herself in spiritual terms throughout the post, saying she believes she is “an angel” and reflecting on missing the sense of aliveness and passion she once felt.
She closed by saying she wants to move closer to God and reclaim the sense of dreaming and excitement she remembers from trips to Mexico earlier in her life.
The post comes after a turbulent stretch for Spears, who was arrested for DUI in March and entered rehab for substance abuse the following month.
She completed her stay later that April, with a source telling Page Six at the time that she was “healthy and happy and feeling very positive.”
In May, she accepted a plea deal in her DUI case, which includes a three-month alcohol education program and a year of informal probation.
Despite the legal troubles, Spears has reportedly reconnected with her sons in the aftermath, with sources saying the two were instrumental in encouraging her to seek treatment. –Agencies
