RAWALPINDI: The Vice Chairman of Parks and Horticulture authority Rawalpindi Malik Abid Hussain on Friday said in a bid to make successful the Prime Minister’s ‘Clean and Green Pakistan Movement†, the PHA has kicked off a special campaign to establish green parks and belts in and around the city without using the national exchequer. As a first step in this regard “Jilani Park†has been completed in Gulzar e Quid Colony Rawalpindi which would be opened for public from coming Sunday. Advisor to C.M. Punjab and Chairman PHA Ch. Asif Mehmood along with other PTI leaders and administrative officers shall inaugurate the park.
He said this while presiding over a meeting with officers of Punjab Forest Department held here in PHA office the other day. He said the Jilani Park was established and developed with the help of philanthropists and not a single penny was taken from government resources. “We shall convert all useless roadside pieces of land into green belts and establish green parks in different localities to give public safe and healthy recreational facilities†, he added saying that these green belts and parks would not only help in reducing environmental pollution but shall give an eye catching lush green view too.
Malik Abid Hussain said the Clean and Green Pakistan Movement is meant to overcome the environmental pollution issues and every citizen must take part to make this programme a success. Keeping in view this very point we started to motivate patriotic philanthropists to play their role in developing green belts and parks in the city.
“To make our city green, plantation is one of five components of clean and green Pakistan Movement while solid waste management, liquid waste management/hygiene, total sanitation and safe drinking water are also under way by the concerned executing agencies†, he maintioned.
He further said Clean and Green Pakistan Movement has not only a specific focus on empowering the citizens to seek access to basic services but also make them equally responsible for Clean and Green Pakistan and this is why we started to involve the people to play their role in making this movement a successful. He also asked the citizens to make the empty land of their houses a green belt themselves and also develop kitchen gardening to grow vegetables. He advised the forest officers to develop different species of flowers and other plants at large scale to distribute them among the citizens for plantation.
