Bishkek: First Deputy Foreign Minister of Kyrgyzstan Nuran Niyazaliev took part in the Tenth Annual Meeting of Deputy Foreign Ministers of Central Asian states and Afghanistan under the auspices of the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA) in the format of video conferencing.
The press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic reported that the meeting was also attended by Assistant Secretary General of the UN Miroslav Jenca, Head of the UN Mission in Afghanistan Deborah Lyons, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan Mirwais Nab.
During the meeting, the sides reviewed the current situation in Central Asia, the remaining challenges and threats, as well as discussed the current activities of the UNRCCA and expressed their proposals for its further improvement.
Niyazaliev noted that today in Central Asia there is an active political and economic dialogue at the highest and high levels and close interaction at the level of departments and regions. He emphasized the importance of interaction on such threats as international terrorism, extremism, drug trafficking, the expansion of the ideology of ISIS and other radical groups. In this regard, he welcomed the start of the activities of a liaison officer of the UN Counter-Terrorism Office for Central Asia in Bishkek.
He stressed that the issues of using water and energy resources in the region can and should be resolved only through an open and constructive dialogue with mutual consideration of the interests of the states of the region. He noted that this process should be determined by a system of measures aimed at the optimal development of the economies of all Central Asian states. In his speech, the First Deputy Minister also thanked the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for the ongoing projects and made suggestions for improving its activities. – PNP
