Case registered against man who thrashed mom as video goes viral

RAWALPINDI: Police in Punjab on Wednesday registered a case against a man for beating his mother after a video of the incident went viral on social media. According to reports, the incident took place on Tuesday night over a financial and property dispute that ended up with a son beating his own mother and sister, while his wife just stood by.
After outrage on social media, the Rawalpindi police lodged a case against the man named Arsalan and his wife Bisma for beating the former’s mother severely. Gulnaz Bibi’s daughter Zoobia Ameer also posted a video on social media in which she detailed the incident and demanded justice for her and her mother.
Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar also took notice of the incident and directed authorities to arrest the accused immediately and to provide justice to the woman, who became the target of violence. Arslan Qureshi and his wife are yet to be arrested, the Rawalpindi police said in a tweet. The woman can be seen pleading her son repeatedly to stop but he continues to thrash her.
Arsalan’s mother on Wednesday said there was no way to forgive him and called for exemplary punishment for him as well as his wife so that no one could be humiliated in future like this. In a video message, Gulnaz Bibi also demanded immediate recovery of the money and jewellery snatched from her, saying she did not want to see any mother receiving a similar treatment by their sons, reported 24NewsHD TV channel. She added that her daughter-in-law was a drug addict and his husband too had started the practice and he thrashed him to please his wife. Earlier, a video went viral on social media in which it can be seen that the son, Arsalan, mercilessly punching and slapping his mother. The video was filmed by her daughter who also faced torture at the hands of his brother.
Amid a strong outrage on social media, the Sadiqabad Police Station registered a case against the two accused who have not been arrested till the filing of this report as Arsalan fled the home along with his wife as well as Rs0.45 million in cash, jewellery and documents related to the house’s ownership. The incident occurred as Arsalan was instigated by his wife and he had been demanding money from his mother. Son and his wife. In another video, Gulnaz’s daughter said she had torture marks on her arm and back, adding that she had called her sister, who lived nearby and told her about the episode. The sister informed the police about the incident, she added.
As Arsalan did not stop torturing Gulnaz, the sister started filming the episode and uploaded it on social media. “I was trying to save my mother with one hand and holding the mobile in the other,†she said. According to her, it wasn’t the first time that he tortured the mother and police was informed on previous occasions too but no action had been taken. On the other hand, Arsalan’s wife alleged that her husband’s stepsister was resorting to unfound propaganda and that the house had been registered in his name.
