ISLAMABAD: Chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Chief Commissioner Islamabad, Muhammad Ali Randhawa, visited the CDA Model Nursery on Park Road on Tuesday to review the completion of its transformation into the newly developed ‘Gardenia Hub’ — a state-of-the-art horticultural facility and one of the largest of its kind in Asia.
Accompanied by Member Environment Esfandyar Baloch, Member Engineering Syed Nafasat Raza, Director General Environment, and other senior officials, the Chairman inspected various sections of the nursery and received a detailed briefing on the recently completed upgradation and restoration works.
CDA Chairman inspects newly upgraded ‘Gardenia Hub’ nursery in Federal Capital. During the briefing, CDA officials informed the Chairman that the Gardenia Hub spans over 50 acres and currently houses more than one million cultivated plants.
The facility features 25 controlled-ventilated greenhouses designed to provide optimal growing conditions and to support research, innovation, and modern propagation techniques.
Officials also highlighted that the nursery includes flower shops, a training and research centre, and a dedicated area for floral exhibitions.
A special mobile application is being developed to allow citizens to conveniently purchase plants online, promoting public participation in Federal Capital’s greening initiatives.
Speaking during the visit, Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa lauded the efforts of the CDA Environment Wing and emphasised the significance of the project for the city’s future environmental development.
“The primary objective of upgrading the CDA Nursery is to establish Islamabad as a key centre for horticulture,” Randhawa said. “Transforming the Model Nursery into the Gardenia Hub marks a significant step towards making the capital greener, more vibrant, and more beautiful.”
He added that CDA employees would receive specialised training in plant care and conservation to maintain international standards of nursery management.
