ISLAMABAD: While Pakistan is facing electricity shortage, China Power Hub Power Plant, a major project under China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), is operational at full capacity providing electricity to consumers in the month of Ramadan.
Electricity shortfall is intensifying, as the mercury is rising in the country. Earlier this week, the shortfall exceeded 7,000MW, resulting in a power cut around 10 hours. However, in such a situation China Power Hub Power Plant is running at full capacity.
China Power Hub Power Plant has been operating at 100% load during the month of Ramadan, providing reliable and uninterrupted power, according to Chinese Embassy Islamabad, adding “It has generated totally 596,086,600 KWH since the start of Ramadan and 20bn+ KWH since the start of its commercial operation”.
The 1320 MW China Hub Coal Power Project, Hub Balochistan, is one of the major power projects under CPEC. China Power Hub Generation Company (Private) Limited sponsored and executed the project with an amount of US$ 1921.2 million. The project was completed in August 2019 while it started commercial operation in October 2019. Besides power generation, the project also creates 1,722 jobs (including 749 for locals) while over 4,000 people were benefited during the construction of the project.
