BEIJING: China resolutely opposed the hyping-up of the so-called “China military threat” by a U.S. defense authorization act and has lodged stern representations with the U.S. side, a Chinese military spokesperson said.
Ren Guoqiang, spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defense, said the China-related contents in the U.S. National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for the 2021 fiscal year and another U.S. bill signed into law are entrenched in the Cold War mentality.
These contents flagrantly violated the basic norms governing international relations, grossly interfered in China’s internal affairs, and severely violated the one-China principle and the three China-U.S. joint communiques, Ren said.
They have seriously undermined the development of relations between the two countries and two sides’ militaries as well as China’s sovereignty, security and development interests, he added.
Ren stressed that issues including those related to Taiwan, Hong Kong and Xinjiang concern China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. They are China’s internal affairs that allow no foreign interference.
He said China’s resolve to defend its sovereignty, security and development interests is unshakable, adding that the Chinese People’s Liberation Army will take all necessary measures to resolutely safeguard the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
