China’s E-Vehicle plan pushes Pakistan for Electric Future

ISLAMABAD: Having inspired from China’s New Electrical Vehicle (NEV) arena, Pakistan has rolled out its own “Electric Future”.
It plans to bring half a million electric motorcycles and rickshaws, along with more than 100,000 electric cars, buses and trucks, into the transportation system over the next five years. The goal is to have at least 30 per cent of all vehicles running on electricity by 2030.
China’s role model has catalyzed Pakistan’s public and private transport sector ushering in an era of pollution-free electrical two-wheelers, three-wheelers and four-wheelers.
Since 2019, many Chinese companies have made joint ventures with local enterprises in row. For example, Orange Line Metro Train under CPEC has operated officially recently.
Roadmap to gain carbon neutrality fortunately also comes in conformity with UN-driven 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that Pakistan has prioritized in all its policy.
Major impetus that galvanized an electric era took effect after the launch of National Eclectic Vehicle Policy (NEVP) 2019 on the footsteps of China.
At the end of June 2019, almost half of the electric cars and 99% of the electric buses in the world were made in China. China also dominates global markets for low-speed electric vehicles and electric two-wheelers.
Chinese’s Green Vehicles vibes became conspicuous when Pakistan launched its very first Electric Car Company Showroom in collaboration with China. Known with name Topsun Motor founded in 2018 is a new edition in the ever growing Automobiles Industry of Pakistan.
The Company intends to manufacture/assemble wide range of vehicles of Chinese origin.
It intends to launch two vehicles initially, Prime Mover and Rigid Truck. However, heavy duty trucks, trailers, buses will be launched in the days to come.
Chinese auto manufacturer Skywell Automobile is gearing up to invest $50 million to launch electric buses in Pakistan this year. According to Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry, the Chinese firm will start manufacturing the electric buses in the second phase after investing the aforementioned amount.
