LAHORE: Chinese Consul General in Lahore Long Dingbin on Wednesday evening met Inspector General of Punjab Police Inam Ghani to appreciate the security to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects.
The Consul General and his delegation lauded the police for the protection of Chinese enterprises and citizens and urged for more bilateral police exchanges and cooperation.
A statement by the Chinese Consulate said the Consul General congratulated Ghani on his new appointment. Long Dingbin said China and Pakistan were all-weather strategic partners, and the two sides always supported and cooperated with each other.
He said despite COVID-19, the work progress on the CPEC projects was satisfactory. “The CPEC projects were not much impacted. Thanks to the provincial police department who provided reliable protection for Chinese enterprises, projects and people,” he added.
Long Dingbin said the Chinese Consulate General in Lahore had always attached great importance to maintaining friendly contacts with the police departments of the provinces, especially the police chiefs to ensure that the corridor projects in the provinces and Chinese citizens were protected from possible terrorist attacks.
He said the Chinese Consulate General was willing to actively cooperate with the Chief Superintendent and the police department, and continue to provide assistance within its capacity, to contribute to the promotion of the traditional friendship between China and Pakistan.
He also greeted the police chief on the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Pakistan.
IG Inam Ghani said the police’s cooperation with China had always been based on brotherhood. “I am very grateful to the Chinese Consulate General for providing pandemic prevention materials and office equipment to the police department of the province,” he said.
He added: “During my tenure, I am willing to work closely with the Chinese Consul General and the Consulate General to ensure the safety protection of the CPEC project, Chinese-funded enterprises and Chinese citizens in the border provinces and to strengthen the police exchanges and cooperation between the two sides. We want to promote the good neighbourliness between China and Pakistan.”
He said protection of lives and property of Chinese experts, investors and citizens based in Punjab was the top priority of Punjab police.
