BEIJING: China’s consumption market showed strong growth during the National Day holiday, from October 1 to October 7, with daily sales revenue in consumption-related sectors rising by 25.1 percent year on year, according to value-added tax invoice data from the State Taxation Administration.
In the entertainment sector, China’s film industry generated a total box office revenue of over 2.1 billion yuan ($300 million) with 52.09 million movie tickets sold, according to the National Film Administration.
Similarly, travel and tourism experienced stable growth, with 765 million domestic passenger trips recorded during the seven-day holiday, a yearly increase of 5.9 percent and 10.2 percent growth compared to the same period in 2019.
Chinese tourists spent over 700.8 billion yuan during the period, a 6.3 percent annual increase and a 7.9 percent rise from 2019, according to data from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
Meanwhile, inter-regional travel across the country exceeded 2 billion passenger trips, with an average of 286.79 million people traveling each day.
The civil aviation industry saw 16.1 million passenger trips during the holiday period, averaging 2.3 million per day and 11.09 percent higher than the figures reached during the 2023 Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holiday period, according to the Ministry of Transport.
