SYDNEY: Chinese Ambassador to Kiribati Zhou Limin presented credentials to Kiribati President Taneti Maamau on Tuesday.
Zhou, who arrived in the South Pacific island country on Sept. 18, said the two countries have witnessed a fast growth of bilateral relations and fruitful cooperation since they resumed diplomatic relations in September 2019. The bilateral cooperation has brought tangible benefits for the two peoples.
Zhou said he is ready to work with the Kiribati side during his term to continue to strengthen political mutual trust, expand bilateral cooperation, and enhance the friendship between the two peoples so as to promote the development of China-Kiribati relations.
Maamau hailed the development of the bilateral relations, saying the two countries have witnessed fruitful cooperation in areas including health, education, infrastructure, culture and people-to-people exchanges since the resumption of diplomatic relations.
He said Kiribati will abide by the one-China principle and firmly support China on issues of its concern.
Maamau said there is a broad prospect for bilateral cooperation and hoped the two countries could push forward a further development of the bilateral relations. –Agencies
