ISLAMABAD: China has pledged to enhance cooperation in disaster prevention and mitigation as well as global climate response with Pakistan and provide more assistance to Pakistan in its flood relief efforts and post disaster reconstruction.
A meeting was held Wednesday on China’s flood assistance headed by Planning minister Ahsan Iqbal at National Flood Response and Coordination Centre, Islamabad.
During a meeting the Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Nong Rong said that Chinese medical and expert team are expected to come soon to Pakistan.
He informed the meeting that more bulk relief materials will arrive in early October following 13,000 tents.
The Pakistani government highly appreciated the assistance of ￥400 million from the Chinese government, ￥100 million from the Chinese Military and ￥125 million raised by Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries from different sectors of Chinese society.
China and Pakistan have been sharing weal and woe for a long time, reaching out to each other and responding to major challenges such as natural disasters side by side. After the floods struck, China has responded immediately, and continued to provide urgently needed assistance to Pakistan and supported the country in its disaster relief work.
Meanwhile, Nong Rong Wednesday also called on Minister of State for Petroleum Dr Musadik Malik and discussed matters of mutual interest.
During the meeting, the minister highlighted the importance of Pakistan-China partnership and reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to increased cooperation in the energy sector, a news release said.
