MANSEHRA: In an aim to promote cultural exchange and highlight shared values between Chinese and Pakistani employees, Energy China recently organised an event in Pakistan to celebrate the traditional Dragon Boat Festival, also known as the Duanwu Festival.
Held at one of the firm’s key project sites in Pakistan, the celebration showcased the symbolic traditions of the festival, which include making zongzi (sticky rice dumplings wrapped in bamboo leaves), learning about dragon boat racing, and exchanging scented sachets as a gesture of goodwill.
“Such exchanges help strengthen our friendship not just in infrastructure projects, but in hearts and traditions,” said one organiser, emphasizing the significance of cultural diplomacy in enhancing bilateral cooperation.
In a related gathering at the CPEC SK Hydropower Project, Chinese and Pakistani employees participated in a program that featured cultural videos on the origins and customs of the Dragon Boat Festival.
As part of the celebration, zongzi were shared among team members, and colorful, herb-filled sachets were gifted by Chinese employees to their Pakistani colleagues. The exchange of these symbolic gifts aimed to reinforce team spirit and deepen cross-cultural understanding at the project site. The Dragon Boat Festival falls on the 5th day of the 5th lunar month and was observed on May 31 this year. –Agencies
