BEIJING: Chinese stocks closed higher on Wednesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.09 percent to 3,246.29 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.42 percent higher at 11,849.08 points. Turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 871.87 billion yuan (about 126.07 billion U.S. dollars), rising from 869.16 billion yuan on the previous trading day. Shares related to the power industry led the gains, while stocks related to the alcohol industry led the losses. The ChiNext Index, tracking China’s Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, gained 1.19 percent to close at 2,570.8 points on Wednesday. –Agencies
