Cops committed to eradicate crimes from society: DIG

ISLAMABAD: DIG Operations Islamabad Afzaal Ahmed Kousar has said that the police haverecorded successes in several crime cases recently as they are committed to eradicate crime from the society. He was addressing a press conference at his office here on Friday.
SSP Investigation Atta-ur-Rehman, SP Industrial Area Fida Hussain Satti, DSP CIA Hakim Khan, SHO Ramana police station Akhtar Zaman and others were also present at the occasion. Giving background of a case, DIG told the media that last week, three dacoits forced their entry into a house in the jurisdiction of Ramana police station. However, the police immediately got the information and reached the spot. Upon seeing the police party, the accused started firing on them and resultantly two of the personnel, Muhammad Saqlain and Muhammad Arshad got injured.
However, the police managed to arrest two accused; Shakaz Baig and Shehram Asghar. The ring leader however, made good hisescape from the crime scene. The DIG said that IGP Islamabad Qazi Jamil-ur-Rehman, taking notice of the same, directed him for the arrest of the absconding accused. He constituted a team under the supervision of SSP Investigation to arrest the third culprit. The team, he said, comprising of DSP Hakim Khan and SHO Ramana police station arrested thethird accused, Tabassam son of Naseer Ahmed, a resident of Daska, district Narowal. During preliminary investigation, the accused confessed to having been involved in 9 such incidents of crime including three in the jurisdiction of Golra police station, one in Karachi Company police station and others inthe jurisdiction of Ramana police station. DIG further told the media that Industrial Area police have also arrested two for demanding Rs 50m from one Waheed Sadiq as ransom. The citizen had stated before SSP Operations Dr. Syed Mustafa Tanweer that the accused had demanded Rs 50m as ransom from him.
The Industrial Area police had registered a case in this regard. The police team working under the guidance of SP Industrial Area also recovered Rs 3.5m from the accused, said the DIG. The accused have been identified as Muhammad Ayyaz Lodhi and Muhammad Owais Lodhi.The DIG said that the IG Islamabad has announced a cash prize for the police teams. He also told the media that two gangs have been arrested for theirinvolvement in street crime along the IJP Road and adjacent areas.
