‘Country can’t afford another martial law’

LONDON: Chairman Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Thursday said that Pakistan cannot afford another martial law, media reported.
Bilawal Bhutto stated this while delivering a lecture at the Oxford University. He said that the future of Pakistan is associated with the supremacy of the constitution, independent judiciary and journalism.
Recalling his late mother Benazir Bhutto, who also studied at the Oxford University, Bilawal said that my mother did not teach me to take revenge that is the reason I always say that democracy is the best revenge.
He said that Benazir Bhutto rendered her life for the supremacy of democracy. Benazir was targeted many times but she continued to participate in politics fearlessly and became the first woman Prime Minister of the country.
Bilawal said that Benazir Bhutto was a champion of women’s right and she always worked for uplifting women’s status in Pakistan.
Earlier, Chairman Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Monday said that Pakistan can play the role of a bridge between China and the United States.
In an interview with the German media at the Munich Security Conference, Pakistan’s former foreign minister, Bilawal Bhutto, talked about his government’s expectations from US President Donald Trump and the security challenges it is facing.
He said that US-India strategic partnership to bring India at par with China will change the balance of power in the region. He said the US can play an important role in restoring trade and negotiations with India.
Bilawal said that Pakistan and India are facing challenges like poverty and unemployment. “Pakistan will take all necessary steps for its survival in the region,” Bilawal said.
Earlier, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman and former foreign minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has reaffirmed that no one will be allowed to challenge the state.
Speaking informally to media representatives during the Munich Security Conference, Bilawal acknowledged the existing challenges but expressed confidence in overcoming them, citing Pakistan’s past success in countering terrorism.
“We have faced challenges before, and we have successfully tackled terrorism in the past. We will not allow anyone to challenge the authority of the state,” he asserted.
Bilawal also emphasised the need for technological advancement and digital transformation, expressing concern that Pakistan is not adequately preparing its youth for the IT and digital era.
“Like every Pakistani, I want the best for my country. However, we are not ready for the digital age, nor are we equipping our children and youth for this transformation,” he added.
Earlier, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Friday stated that the people-to-people ties between Pakistan and the United States should be strengthened. Mr. Bhutto Zardari who is currently on a visit to the United States on the invitation of US President Donald Trump for attending National Prayer Breakfast event spoke to the Pakistani media representatives in Washington. –Agencies
