ISLAMABAD: President Dr Arif Alvi Sunday said that Pakistan was moving towards a non-elite health and education system for both the sectors being key in poverty reduction and national development.
The president said this while retweeting Ehsaas Program head Dr Sania Nishtar’s call on Twitter for Ehsaas Undergraduate Scholarships applications from students with family income less than Rs.45,000. The scholarship, covering tuition fee and living stipend, will provide deserving students an opportunity to study in any of 125 public sector universities.
The portal ehsaas.hec.gov.pk is open for applications till October 30, 2020. https:\\ “Alert “All students must spread this so that deserving apply for scholarships in time. More than 50,000 scholarships given last year,” the president remarked.
Earlier, President Dr Arif Alvi Saturday urged the countrymen to battle against stress and depression while doing away with the taboos attached with the conditions.
The president said this in his message on Twitter on the occasion of World Mental Health Day annually observed on October 10 with an objective of raising awareness of mental health issues around the world and mobilizing efforts in support of mental health. “You are braver than (you) believe, stronger than (you) appear & smarter than (you) think. Do what’s necessary, then do what’s possible & suddenly you will be doing the impossible as today is only a start for a happier tomorrow,” the president remarked. This year, the Mental Health Day is being observed with the theme of “Move for mental health: let’s invest.”
Moreover, President Dr Arif Alvi Friday stressed the need for increased cooperation between Pakistan and Nigeria in the areas of trade, economy and defence besides promoting high level contacts.
In a meeting with outgoing Nigerian High Commissioner, Major Gen (R) Ashimiyu A Olaniyi, who made a farewell call on him, at Aiwan-e-Sadr, the president said Pakistan attached great importance to its ties with Nigeria, a President House press release said. He said Pakistan desired to further strengthen and diversify the existing bilateral relations to the mutual benefit of the two countries. The president said both the countries needed to promote high level contacts and visits which would further cement bilateral relations.
Highlighting the atrocities by India security forces against the Muslims of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), he urged the international community to play its role for peaceful resolution of Jammu and Kashmir dispute and protection of the Muslim minority in India.
