-Over 33,000 recover as fatalities top 2,000 | More than 3,100 health workers test positive

ISLAMABAD: Sindh province on Sunday reported 1744 fresh cases of COVID-19 during the past 24-hours as 16 more patients lost their lives due to it.
In a daily briefing, Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah said that 8119 test have been performed in the province during the last 24 hours. “As many as 650 people have so far died from the infection in the province,” he said.
The chief minister said that at present there were 18,682 patients, who suffer from novel coronavirus and of them, 414 are said to be in critical condition while 67 are put on ventilator.
“Some 17,257 COVID-19 patients are quarantined at their homes, 63 at isolation centres while 1362 have been treated at hospitals across the province,” he said.
Divulging details of recovery rate, Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah said that 511 patients have recovered from the infection during past 24 hours, raising the total number of recoveries in the province to 18,776.
He said that out of the total fresh cases reported today, 1081 have been reported from Karachi.
Frontline health workers continue to suffer from coronavirus in the country as 3088 of them have so far tested positive for COVID-19 in the country.
According to reports, the figures have been provided to the National Health Ministry in a report prepared by National Institute of Health (NIH) Islamabad.
“Out of total infected health workers, 1815 of them are doctors,” it said, adding that 412 nurses and 861 other paramedical staff have also contracted COVID-19.
The reports said that 1703 healthcare workers were self-isolated at their homes while 255 of them are being treated at the hospitals.
“Some 251 of the health workers admitted to hospitals are said to be in stable condition,” it said as overall 1101 of them have recovered from the infection thus far.
The reports said that 29 health workers have died of the virus in the country.
Punjab reported 1782 new coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours, taking the total number of infections across the province to 37,090, according to the Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department. A spokesperson for the department said, 24 more deaths from coronavirus in the past 24 hours, taking the total number of fatalities to 683 in Punjab province. Of the new cases, 691 cases emerged in Lahore.
The number of people recovering from the disease has risen to 8,109 while a total of 282,807 tests have been conducted in the province (Punjab) so far, the department said.
The death toll from coronavirus in the country crossed the 2,000 mark on Sunday with 67 more Covid-19 deaths reported in the past 24 hours. With 8,199 tests conducted over the last 24 hours which is the highest number of tests conducted in the province to date about 1,744 new cases of coronavirus have emerged in Sindh, said Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah on Sunday. This takes the province-wide tally to 38,108.
“With 16 more patients who died overnight due to coronavirus, the death toll across the province has come to 650 that constitutes about 1.7% of the total infected people,” Shah said. He added that so far 321,009 tests have been conducted, out of which 38,108 tested coronavirus positive, constituting 16.5 % of the tests conducted.
Talking about 18, 682 patients under treatment, Shah said that about 17,257 were in isolation at home and are being treated through tele-medicine, 63 at isolation centres and 1,362 are receiving treatment at various hospitals across the province. About 414 patients are in critical condition, out of which 67 have been shifted to ventilators, the chief minister said.
Speaking about the patients who have recovered from the virus, Shah said that about 511 more have recovered and returned to normal life in the past day.
The number of patients recovered so far has therefore reached 18,776 which constitutes 49.3% of the cases reported, he said.
