Customs crack massive Fruit smuggling case

GUANGZHOU: Three fruit-smuggling gangs and eight suspects were arrested by customs in south China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and Guangdong Province, involving 660 million yuan (102.1 million U.S. dollars).

According to the customs police, the gangs smuggled 16,500 tonnes of fruits, including durian, since April 2019. Initial investigations into the case showed that the criminals purchased fresh fruits in Thailand and transferred them to China via Vietnam, using fabricated trade contracts and documents.  – Agencies
