ISLAMABAD: Federal Parliamentary Secretary for Information and Broadcasting Barrister Danyal Chaudhry on Thursday stressed the need for timely, credible and verifiable information to safeguard public trust and informed decision making, as he chaired a panel discussion on information integrity at a national dialogue organised in Islamabad by UNESCO Office Pakistan in collaboration with the Press Information Department (PID), Centre for Peace and Development Initiatives (CPDI) and National Forum of Information Commissioners (NFIC).
Speaking at the panel titled “The Value of Information Integrity: Trust, Journalism and Resilience”, held as part of the dialogue on “Access to Information for Enhancing Information Integrity,” Danyal said the rapid expansion of social media, digital platforms and artificial intelligence had transformed access to information while creating new risks from misinformation, disinformation and AI generated content.
He called for stronger responsible journalism, timely government communication, greater media literacy and ethical use of artificial intelligence to protect the public from false and misleading narratives.
The parliamentary secretary said information integrity is a shared responsibility of the government, parliament, media, civil society, academia, technology platforms and citizens.
Barrister stressed that credible information must reach the public promptly, warning that delays and information gaps could create space for misinformation and false narratives to gain ground.
Danyal appreciated UNESCO, PID, CPDI and NFIC for convening the dialogue, saying closer cooperation among key stakeholders is essential to building a more credible, transparent and resilient information ecosystem in Pakistan.
