DIG calls for crime control

ISLAMABAD: DIG Islambad Muhammad Jawad Tariq presided over a high-level meeting to review the prevailing crime situation and formulate strategies for stronger enforcement against criminal elements.
The meeting was attended by SSP Investigation, zonal SPs and SDPOs. During the meeting, the performance of all officers was thoroughly evaluated. DIG Islamabad made it clear that the rising trend in crime will not be tolerated, directing that those involved in heinous crimes must be arrested promptly and prosecuted with full force of law.
He instructed officers to apprehend absconders without delay and complete investigations strictly on merit. He emphasized that challans must be submitted with concrete evidence to ensure convictions. He also directed that patrolling be made purposeful and more effective, with indiscriminate action against illegal arms displays and land grabbing elements.
DIG Islamabad further stated that the arrest of proclaimed offenders must be ensured and effective grievance redressal mechanisms must be implemented at the police station level to resolve citizens complaints on a priority basis. He announced that regular meetings would be held in all zones to review progress.
He issued strict directives for immediate action against any police officials involved in bribery, corruption or misconduct, including those already facing complaints. He warned that misuse of authority and corrupt practices would not be tolerated under any circumstances. He also stressed the need for dismantling organized and active criminal networks through coordinated and integrated operations.
He also directed the arrest of associates and facilitators of criminal gangs and urged enhanced efforts in curbing motorcycle and car theft, with priority on arrests and recoveries.
Special focus must be placed on eliminating drug peddling, particularly in and around educational institutions. Comprehensive strategies must be implemented to intensify pressure on drug dealers and other criminal elements, he added.
He also ordered action against professional beggars and their facilitators, instructing that FIRs be registered accordingly. He emphasized swift submission of pending challans to courts and improvement in the quality of investigations.
All officers were urged to maintain exemplary discipline and remain committed to ensuring the protection of citizens, warning that any form of negligence would be dealt with strict departmental action.
