Pyongyang: The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) held multiple high-profile events in Pyongyang on Saturday to commemorate the 71st anniversary of the country’s victory in the Fatherland Liberation War. Kim Jong Un, general secretary of the WPK and president of the State Affairs of the DPRK, was in attendance, state media said Sunday.
A meeting with the war veterans was held in the DPRK capital on Saturday, featuring a major speech by Ri Il Hwan, member of the Political Bureau and secretary of the Central Committee of the WPK, and oath-taking speeches by representatives from the Korean People’s Army, the official reported.
During the speech, Ri paid high tribute to the martyrs who had fallen in the war for defending the country and extended heartfelt thanks and best wishes to the war veterans, the KCNA said. On Saturday evening, Pyongyang also hosted a commemorative march featuring symbolic columns of military units from the Fatherland Liberation War and a performance celebrating the war victory, KCNA report.
Meanwhile, The Democratic DPRK vowed to “totally destroy” its enemies if leader Kim Jong Un orders it, state media KCNA reported on Sunday, as Pyongyang commemorated the end of hostilities in the Korean War.
According to KCNA, senior military officials, including Col. Ri Un-ryong and Lt. Cdr. Yu Kyong-song, expressed “surging hatred” toward the United States and South Korea during a Saturday meeting attended by Kim, marking the 71st anniversary of the Korean War armistice. –Agencies
