Driver killed as two goods trains collide near Renala Khurd

RENALA KHURD: An assistant train driver was killed on Thursday following a collision between two goods trains near Renala Khurd city of Okara District in Punjab.

The incident occurred at Eastern Bypass between Renala Khurd Station and Habibabad. According to eyewitnesses, some railcars were detached from a train. While repairs were underway, another train crashed into the stationary cars. The locomotive was also derailed due to the incident.

The deceased was identified as Assistant Driver Imtiaz. Federal Minister for Railways, Muhammad Hanif Abbasi, took notice of the freight train accident, expressing his concern. He ordered a detailed inquiry into the accident, which is to be completed within three days.

The minister expressed deep sorrow, stating, “There is no substitute for a human life, whether it belongs to a passenger or an employee.”

A relief train from Lahore was promptly dispatched to assist in the rescue and recovery efforts at the crash site. Minister Abbasi assured that strict action would be taken against those found responsible for the accident. –Agencies
