Manchester: Edgbaston and The Kia Oval are all set to host a crowd for the first time after a break from cricket due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Kia Oval will host a friendly match between Surrey and Middlesex on July 26 and 27 whereas Edgbaston is lined up to host a second friendly match between Warwickshire v Worcestershire from July 27.
A maximum of 1,000 spectators will be allowed per day for the pilot. The Kia Oval will host supporters for both days of the two-day friendly, while Edgbaston will host supporters on the second day only.
It must be noted here that the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) aims to bring spectators to the stadiums by late July or early August.
The United Kingdom (UK)’s Sports Minister is excited to see the crowd returning to the stadium after a long gap.
“It’s brilliant news that supporters will be welcomed back to Edgbaston for Warwickshire v Worcestershire as part of the pilot series,” he said.
“Many of us have felt the void of being unable to go and watch live cricket during lockdown, so I am pleased that we are moving forward with our plan to help sports venues reopen their doors to fans,” he added. – Agencies
