ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi told the Senate that the imposition of emergency or governor’s rule did not violate the Constitution, asking Senator Raja Nasir Abbas to identify the specific constitutional provision allegedly breached.
Naqvi said the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) had reviewed the relevant provisions of the law, adding that the government believed its decision was justified.
He said negotiations in parliament had initially focused on terrorism, with seven to eight points discussed during the talks. According to Naqvi, PTI leader Asad Qaiser had assured him that the party would stand with Pakistan on these issues.
The interior minister said he had pointed out that Asad Qaiser’s position differed from that of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government. He added that political issues had not been discussed at the initial stage of the negotiations. –Agencies
