PRIME Minister Imran Khan has addressed the liaison officers and youth ambassadors of Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) Headquarters in Chaklala, this event was attended by Federal Minister for Narcotics Control and senior officials of ANF. Director General ANF Major General Muhammad Arif Malik briefed prime minister on the operations of ANF for control of smuggling of narcotics across the country and now Prime Minister has been aiming to formulate a strategy for countering the problem of drug abuse among young people. He has also “vowed” to save future generations from corruption and narcotics calling these problems as “cancer of society”. He has also been talking about his plans saying that he would call a meeting next week to discuss ways to address the challenge of narcotics on urgent basis and he added that “The government will run an anti-drug campaign across the country and the entire nation will fight this menace as a united force”.
While emphasizing on the need for raising consciousness among the masses, particularly youth, about the negative impacts of drugs in personal and social lives. Expressing grave concern over rising number of cases of drug addicts reported at schools and universities, he aimed to form a conclusive policy. Prime Minister Imran Khan also highlighted the role of society saying that it had a significant role in promotion of negative trends by accepting earning of money through illegal ways and corruption. He assured that the government would improve the flow of resources required to counter peril of drug abuse in the country. Experts say, in Pakistan there is an urgent need to address the prevailing challenge of drug abuse as this is becoming more common in educational institutions. Shockingly the government has been playing with words and no actions. The question is how teenagers are accessing drugs from schools and colleges? This has to be addressed not just through catchy words but a concrete action has to be taken.
The easy access of drugs and high consumption in youth is also the result of “flex trend” that is becoming popular among youth. While talking to a few students, The Frontier Posts found out that many students are opting for drugs merely to fit in the “flex trend”, enabling them to engage and socialize. This problem has to be addressed and unfortunately only government cannot control this challenge, teachers and parents have a responsibility in this.
