ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has pledged to enhance security for Chinese nationals in Pakistan, par-ticularly in response to a recent attack in Karachi that left two Chinese injured.
During a meeting in Islamabad with Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zaidong, Naqvi expressed solidarity and regret over the Karachi incident.
Naqvi underscored that protecting Chinese citizens remains a top priority, especially in light of the Chi-na-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects, which are integral to the bilateral partnership.
He assured that all possible steps are being taken to secure a peaceful environment for Chinese na-tionals working in Pakistan, stating that those responsible for the Karachi attack would be brought to justice.
In the meeting, Naqvi conveyed condolences to the victims and their families, providing updates on the investigation’s progress.
Both sides discussed strategies to prevent similar incidents in the future, with a commitment to en-hancing bilateral security cooperation and the safety of Chinese workers in Pakistan.
The Chinese ambassador thanked Minister Naqvi for the recent security measures during the Chinese premier’s visit and conveyed a message from President Xi Jinping to Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari, wishing him a swift recovery.
The meeting was attended by senior officials from Pakistan’s interior ministry and the Chinese embas-sy, with discussions highlighting the ongoing growth in Pakistan-China cooperation and the need for a stable environment to support this alliance.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif visited the Chinese Embassy in Islamabad on Wednesday to condemn a recent shooting incident in Karachi, where two Chinese nationals were injured, according to Radio Pa-kistan.
The attack, which took place on Tuesday in the SITE Industrial Area of the city, prompted Beijing to demand stronger security measures for its citizens in Pakistan.
“I am here to condemn the attack on Chinese nationals and to inquire about their health,” said PM Shehbaz said during his meeting with Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Jiang Zaidong. According to hospital officials, one of the victims remains in serious condition at Liaquat National Hospital.
“The security of Chinese nationals is our top priority,” he stated, adding that he was personally over-seeing the investigation to ensure justice.
The PM also expressed his satisfaction that the health of the injured individuals was improving, under-scoring the importance of Pakistan-China relations. “This attack is a deplorable attempt to harm the brotherly ties between our nations,” he remarked.
The Chinese ambassador thanked the PM for his visit and expressed hope that the perpetrators would soon be brought to justice.
The foreign ministry also condemned the attack and reiterated its commitment to a thorough investi-gation, coordinating with both the interior ministry and the Chinese embassy in Islamabad.
