Expats enjoy scenery, culture in Pingyang

BEIJING: The delegation, with members from the United States, Yemen, Morocco and South Africa, visited a cultural center with a southern-style kung fu theme, enjoyed a puppet show and toured the ancient buildings in Shunxi town. They also participated in the making of delicious Shunxi yellow rice cake.
Nanquan is a martial arts style that originated on the southern banks of the Yangtze River. Pingyang Nanquan, also called the living fossil of Nanquan, is one of the area’s most popular sports.
Shunxi yellow rice cake is known both for its color and the smell of ash, which comes from the ashes of gardenia and camelia trees growing in the mountainous area.
Pingyang is home to a puppet show that has been designated as an intangible cultural heritage.
The skillful hands of the puppeteers can make the joints and facial parts of these delicate puppets move freely and allow them to do many things, from serving tea to singing and dancing.
Since last year, Pingyang has organized a series of activities and invited expat social media influencers and international tourists living in or near the county to experience its beautiful natural scenery, unique folk customs and rich traditional intangible cultural heritage. –The Daily Mail-China Daily news exchange item
