Staff Report
ISLAMABAD: Faculty members at COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI) observed a Black Day today, responding to the call of the Federation of All Pakistan Universities Academic Staff Association (FAPUASA) to protest the withdrawal of the 25% tax rebate for teachers and researchers. A significant number of faculty members participated in the protest, wearing black ribbons and chanting slogans in favor of their demands.
Dr. Muhammad Jadoon Khan, President of the Academic Staff Association (ASA-CUI), addressed the gathering, urging the government to immediately restore the tax rebate to provide financial relief to the academic community.
“The government must recognize the invaluable contributions of educators and researchers in shaping the future of this country,” Dr. Jadoon Khan stated. “The withdrawal of the tax rebate is a clear injustice that must be rectified immediately.”
The protesting faculty warned that if their demands were not met, they would escalate their movement with full-fledged protests and rallies on major roads on March 11, 2025. The faculty at CUI stands united with their peers across Pakistan and remains committed to advocating for their rights through peaceful demonstrations. They called upon the government to take swift action to address their concerns and ensure the sustainability of the higher education sector.
