ISLAMABAD: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Anti-Corruption Circle, Islamabad, has arrested the chief executive officer and owner of Quaid-e-Azam International Hospital, Dr. Shaukat Bangash, in connection with an alleged illegal and commercial kidney transplant network.
According to FIA officials, Dr. Bangash was taken into custody for his alleged involvement in facilitating and managing illegal kidney transplant activities. The development comes as six other suspects linked to the alleged transplant network have already been arrested.
Among those previously detained were kidney transplant surgeon Dr. Nadir and transplant coordinator Adil Shirazi, whose post-arrest bail petitions were rejected by the Islamabad High Court.
The FIA said the ongoing investigation would also examine the possible involvement of the hospital administration and other individuals in the case. The arrested suspect would be produced before the relevant court to obtain physical remand for further investigation, FIA officials said.
